Emily B. Yang is an artist + designer + educator + social dreamer. She employs art and design as a medium to reconcile the past with the present and uses stories of the future to create provocations for today.

I. Artist.

My father’s favorite Confucian saying seems relevant somehow: “study the past if you want to define the future.” My block print work has been predominantly about looking back towards the past to reconcile with a disorienting present.

II. Designer.

Specializing in imagining the future of industries. Clients have included large social media companies, global financial institutions and other creative design studios. Future stories are brought to life through storytelling and imagined artifacts from the future.

III. Educator.

Encouraging students to interrogate the role of art and technology in the creation of possible futures at the Parsons School of Design.

IV. Social Dreamer.

Community engagement in New York City’s Chinatown. Imagining a future that is safe and inclusive for all.
